5. learning how to use Divine power to ‘demolish those structures’ that have held you ‘captive’ in your thinking, feeling and behaving – by ‘going where God is’ and learning how to apply refocussing skills.
6. learning how to map and ‘draw’ out the future, dreams and visions that you and God together plan for your life.
7. learning how to develop strategies to achieve your goals and stay on task irrespective of deflections, opposition of anxieties.

These seminars are an interactive experience designed specifically designed for anyone who wants to go on a journey of discovery to learn how you can experience God based on a sound theology of who He really is, according to  some of the numerous names and characteristics of our extraordinary Triune God. The seminar is available as  a 1 or 2  or 3 day format, or it is also presented as a small group ten lesson curriculum.

For example: Dr Divett has created a series of interactive dynamic exercises that will allow individuals and the group to understand more about theology by engaging in a remarkable process that allows a way for you to ‘experience’ and connect to God as:

• Jehovah Shalom (peace, wholeness and harmony)
• El Rohe (the God who sees)
• Jesus (the Son of God)
• Holy Spirit (the comforter)
• El Shaddai (the all sufficient one)

What? – The content:

The content of these Refocussing God awareness, other people awareness and self awareness interactive seminars are designed to follow a programme that follows a process that is designed around the safety and ethics of individuals and groups as they go on  a journey of growth and discovery that:

1. Provides you with an understanding of God awareness examining who God is via both a sound theology and then experience as you learn to use your God Spaces to:

• Locate (find) God in your ‘space’, and  in ‘time’ – ‘calling to remembrance all the things he has shown you (John 14:26) past, present, future
• Access (experience and connect to Him according to His names and characteristics)
• Develop (describe by language, art, symbols, actions) what it is He is showing (for those who receive revelation via the visual faculty) or telling(for those who receive revelation via the more auditory/conceptual/thinking faculty), or ‘feeling/sensing’ (for those who receive revelation via the more tactile/kinaesthetic faculty).

     2. A glance at other people awareness as you are provided with safe interactive exercises that allow you to examine the major family and intergenerational influencers that have shaped your life:

     3. A glance at your own ‘self awareness‘ (the intra-personal) perspective, the provides you with safe interactive exercises that allows you to examine  how you function and react from different ‘parts’ of your personality ( as described in Romans chapter 7).

This course is for those who want to learn to use Refocussing as  counselling theory and practice in their pastoral care, psychotherapeutic, counselling practice.

The course is suitable for those who are counsellors working in: social work, mental health, pastoral counsellors, therapists, school counsellors, chaplains, Hospice workers , or those who are researching counselling for themselves and want to learn more about a Christian counselling theory.

What:

The course is highly interactive with participants having opportunity to use many of the psycho-educational activities and exercises that Dr Divett has designed in order to allow opportunity for personal growth and development.

As well the course provides many demonstrations modelled to show how the therapy is actually conducted.

The theory details how Refocussing is based on Dr Divett’s notion that ‘Wholeness ‘ is the goal of Refocussing (RF & RFT), Moreover,  to achieve this’wholistic’ focus (spelt this way intentionally), she has designed  a ‘seven foci integrative system’, which not only integrates psychological and theological theories but it is also provides a way, focus on those ‘unmet needs’ that arise (mainly from the past) in all dimensions. This includes: the transpersonal (spiritual); the interpersonal (family,and work, social/friends, recreation and leisure,); and interpersonal (intellectual, physical, emotional and moral) is achieved. However, the point is that such focus on those ‘unmet needs’, which are likely to be causing ’problems’  is only encouraged because the intention or aim is to then  ’Refocus’ to find solutions. But specifically in Refocussing, such “refocus’ is achieved   by using  ’Godspaces’ , which is central to the theory and practice’ so that connecting to God’s empowering presence is achieved in a way predictable, reliable and repeatable (the hallmarks of a scientific theory which can be measured!). By Refocussing in this way activates an encounter with God bringing healing, resources, and resolution for the unmet needs.

Who for?
These courses are open to anyone who (1) desires to go on a journey of discovery to learn how to learn about how you can personally connect and interact with God. (2) for those who want to go on a journey to become involved as Refocussing counsellors, coaches, life mappers, and spiritual directors. As well this is a beginning place for those who are selected to become facilitators of any one of these programmes – although special conditions apply. The programme is safe, and highly respectful of you as an individual, as you are facilitated to learn how God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit will reveal himself to you using visions/ pictures, dreams; hearing or sensing how his word comes to you as revelation; .

These courses will provide you with an  overview of Refocussing – what is it; and how can you apply it in your personal, family, church settings.

Facilitators training courses for RF life development, God Spaces directors.:

This is by application to be a facilitator of Refocussing –  the ongoing supervision and ethical codes of conduct required to become and remain as an RF facilitator is rigourous so references from your pastor and employment will be required once you apply for this course.

My recent trips to the UK, Europe and Canada has resulted in some positive outcomes:

1) The united Kingdom / London:

I met with Melanie Perry who is both a teacher and life coach living and working in Guilford in the greater London area. I first met Melanie when she came to Germany to one of our Refocussing training centers and there she was immersed in Refocussing. Because of her aptitude and professional approach to the way she viewed Refocussing we continued to engage in discussion about the future of Refocussing in London in particular and the UK in general.

As a result I met with Melanie and other leaders from a variety of groups from the Anglican church, YWAM, Assemblies of God and ‘The River churches and we have established plans to begin teaching and training on a regular basis from April 2009. Therefore, I will return to London and begin the training process and for any who are interested the the dates are set for : April 15 (An introduction to Refocussing); April 16 (God Spaces to shift people from anxiety, depression, fear, trauma) April 17 (Refocussing as a self awareness process that provides people with a way to connect to God – their future and vision) April 18 (Refocussing for counsellors and therapists – the theory and practice) .

As well I will be preaching Sunday morning at the Guilford Eternity Church.

2) Switzerland:

I met with Lukas and Claudia Eggenberg in Switzerland. Lukas first trained in Refocussing with me in N.Z 1998 and has since been the primary Refocussing facilitator for Europe since 1999, and as such is listed on the registered list of Refocussing facilitators. While in Switzerland I conducted a training seminar for a group of leaders in the majestic snow covered mountains, where I experienced my first taste of horse meat! (I was not told what I was eating until after the event – however, I am still not sure how I feel about having eaten horse especially since I kept horses when I was young!). I have yet to confirm a booking to teach and train church workers in the use of Refocussing for as a pastoral care model, as well as how to train people to use the Refocussing self awareness curriculum in small/cell groups,which is a stunning programme that allows people to find their own person way to connect to God via their Godspaces, and then to map their future, as well providing a safe way examine some of the past influences that have shaped them and perhaps prevented their growth and development. This is planned for the end of April early May 2009 just after the UK.

We then met up with some wonderful French speaking Swiss/Italian, Pietro and Dorethe Bongiovanni who have asked me in to return to Switzerland to provide a teaching and training series in Refocussing. This is booked for October 22 – 25 , 2009.

Rwanda, is such a nation that is still suffering from trauma that resulted from a genocidal mania so evil that in the brief period of 3 months from April to June 1994 over 1, million Tutsi people were slaughtered in a machete-hacking nightmare carried out by Hutu’s who planned and strategised one of the worlds most evil atrocities.

So, how do I summarise what happened as we were simply invited to take Godspaces for trauma to Rwanda a nation still severely traumatised and while we were there revisiting that trauma in their annual memorial time?!

The first thing to say is what an extraordinary privilege it was to have been invited to teach and train so many outstanding pastors, counsellors, ministry of health and world vision participants selected from all over Rwanda in our simple but powerful life changing theory and practice of: “Godspaces for trauma “. We spent almost 14 days non stop teaching and training a group of 90 selected people from all the provinces all over Rwanda.

My overwhelming conclusion was that for Rwanda it was their time for the Godspaces – We felt it was a divine appointment –simply the right people with the right message at the right time! The degree of trauma in the nation is something we cannot even begin to comprehend.

So thank God that we did not go claiming to be experts in the type of trauma they had experienced; but rather we went simply as a team of servants, much like the disciples armed with the loaves and fishes – the little we did have – which in this case was the amazing knowledge that as people are taught go to their own Godspaces they can be guaranteed of an encounter with the living God who is the bread of life, and who promises to be the drink for their thirsts – and as we shared what we had that is simply what happened!!.

In response to us training both Tutis and Hutus how to experience God, by using their own Godspaces they began to encounter God in a new and powerful ways. In this way they were able to then bring their new found experiences of God to their deepest hidden traumas. And, these amazing, resilient and beautiful people began to feel safe enough to open up their lives and hearts to us.

It was only because they knew that by using their Godspaces, they were then empowered to know and experience God’s protection, safety, comfort and sorrow for what they had been through. And, it was only then that they began to feel anywhere near safe enough to tell us their own personal stories.

Their own stories were all ones of remarkable survival – and yet these people were and are the counsellors and pastors – all themselves still severely traumatised – but wanting to help their nation Rwanda not only recover but also to be assured of a safe future free of any fear of what might happen.

Obviously I do not have the space to detail those stories – but in time they will be available via godspaces.com showing live footage in documentary format of what he did and how we did it.

So what is the future for us with Rwanda?

We have made a 5 year commitment to supervise via internet and from time-to-time with on the ground supervision especially for those we have already begun training.

I will return in about 6 months but also our goal is to send one of our team back for a couple of months to personally care for and support those locals that we trained and who have already begun to do the hands on work.

One last thing – Hamish wrote an amazing poem (apparently in one of his bored moments listening to me – can you imagine that?!!) anyway even if I have to admit it his poem is truly amazing, and captured something so powerful I am sure it was inspired – the Rwandans loved it and they claimed it as their own poem.
